Increase in Wildlife Sightings in Wentworth – Cougars and Coyotes

Calgary’s wildlife

Animal and Bylaw Services

To the delight of Calgarians, our city is located close to the Rocky Mountains, Kananaskis Country and Fish Creek Provincial Park. Just as we are attracted to the great outdoors, urban wildlife is moving into our communities.

Calgarians are reminded that wildlife can be dangerous and not to approach them or feed them under any circumstances. Homeowners are asked to secure garbage, pet food and any other potential food sources that may attract animals. Even pet waste can attract coyotes or bears.

Please do the following if you encounter a problem with wildlife or injured wildlife.

Call Animal Services at 3-1-1 if you have a problem (within city limits) with:

  • Norway Rats
  • Dead animals within the city limits
  • To report coyote signtings for tracking purposes

Bears / Moose / Cougars

If bears, moose or cougars are spotted within Calgary, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Call Alberta Fish and Wildlife at 403-297-6423 8:15 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday or 3-1-1 after hours if you have a problem with:

  • Badgers
  • Deer
  • Wolves
  • Other large wildlife
